Yorktown withstands John Jay rally, other Monday results

Both Yorktown and John Jay lost its top three scorers and starting goalie after meeting in last year’s Class B sectional final, so I wasn’t sure what to expect when I got to Yorktown today. What I got was an incredible game. Yorktown scored six straight goals to go up 14-7 with 19:42 left, John Jay came all the way back to tie it with 3:11 left, then Jaimie Morrison scored with 23 seconds left to give the Cornhuskers a 15-14 win. The Los Angeles Daily News says Carolina Garcia will be its new executive editor. Daily News Publisher Douglas E. Hanes announced Garcia's appointment in a story on the newspaper's Web site on Monday.
